To create closer links between Wivenhoe Town Football Club and the University of Essex, an arrangement was agreed in the year 2000 for the University’s first team to play in the Border League taking over the slot previously occupied by Wivenhoe Town Reserves.

The first season in Border League Division 2 saw the team crowned as Champions and gaining promotion to Border League Division 1. The championship was decided on the last game of the season, with Hadleigh finishing as Runners-up when they lost to Rowhedge in their last match.

The season 2001-2 saw the team playing under the new name of Wivenhoe and University Town in recognition of the relationship between the 2 clubs. All home games at Broad Lane as far as possible. The Team finished 5th in Div. 1 and half way through the season we were top of the fair play league.

If anybody is interested in joining, there is strong competition to get into the team, with most people coming from the players within the University of Essex Football Club. However approach a first team member, ask for a trial and give your contact details.
