Colin Kirby-Green trained as a fine artist at St Martin’s School of Art and also followed that with further training at Hornsey College of Art during the 1960s. He taught Painting and Drawing at St Alban’s School of Art and also lectured in Art Appreciation at Hatfield Polytechnic. During his teaching career, he has worked and studied in Italy for extended periods of time from the 1960s up until 1996. Between 1969 and 1996 he has exhibited much of his work at galleries in and around London as well as in Essex, and has sold his work to private collectors around the world. He has taught at venues in Colchester and previously in the Wivenhoe Scout & Guide Hall and continues to produce his own work at his studio in Brightlingsea, Essex. For more details about Colin, see his web site: www.colinkirbygreen.com
Joan GiffordJoan Gifford has taught fingerstyle folk guitar in schools and community colleges for many years and is well known in Wivenhoe as one of the people behind the thriving Folk Club that attracts top UK and international performers.

As a child in South Africa, she played the piano and sang, but was persuaded to to take up the guitar in the early 1960s when she was a post graduate student at the Central School of Art in London. (Joan says it was because friends got increasingly fed up helping her to move her piano from one set of digs to another!)

She enjoys teaching (although she says that her students very quickly get to be better than she is!) and also enjoys performing a wide range of folk, popular and humorous songs.

Lyn Smith

Singing lessons – Lyn has years of experience as a professional singer in the field of rock and pop and now works as a vocal coach in Wivenhoe. She offers a friendly, informal approach that gets results. She has taken complete beginners right up to professional performance level. Lessons cover voice development and projection, tone and pitching, ear training, microphone technique harmony singing.

Songwriting Workshops – Lyn Smith runs songwriting workshop holidays about three times a year.  An opportunity to explore creative potential without distraction. The workshops are a chance for budding songwriters to get together to analyse, develop, and perform their songs in a tranquil and inspirational mountain setting in North Wales.

Bill Heslop

Bill is a familiar figure in Wivenhoe having not just taught art at the Colne Community School but tutoring art classes for the Adult Education College over quite a few years.    Additionally, Bill started the Wivenhoe Watercolour Challenge in 2001. In his own right, he is an accomplished artist; many people have examples of his work hanging in their homes, and a few of us are lucky enough to receive a hand-painted Christmas card from him each year.   Click here to see the Wivenhoe Watercolour Challenge home page.

Frank and Gillian Baker

Frank and Gillian moved to Wivenhoe in 2003 from the north east where they have both taught art as well as been painters in their own right, and exhibited at many well-known places as well as having their own exhibitions.

They regularly hold Painting and Drawing courses for people in the William Loveless Hall. Contact Frank and Gillian on 01206 820902 or by email:
