  The

  Tennis Courts

  at

  Broad Lane

  Sports Ground

Four floodlit tennis courts were installed by Wivenhoe & District Sporting Facilities Trust in 2001 at a cost of 127,500. This was made possible by a Sports Lottery Grant from Sport England of 79,798, 40,000 from Colchester Borough Council, with the balance due to local fund-raising.

The courts are home for the members of Wivenhoe Tennis Club who play there all year round because of the excellent floodlighting. The Club runs a Winter Tennis League (Men’s Doubles and Mixed Doubles) for clubs in the area, which is very well supported.

The Tennis Club are keen for new members to join. There are about 60 already. These people play at all different standards. For details, call Ginny on tel: 01206 825964. You can also find more details about the Club from their own web site: http://www.wivenhoetennis.org.uk/

The courts can also be hired by the general public. This is via the Spar Supermarket at The Cross, Wivenhoe. Play is on a Pay and Play basis, with booking done at the time of play. The cost is 4 an hour for a court (1.50 for the court if all players are under 16), plus a 5 key deposit. Floodlighting if required is 1 extra.
