The Wivenhoe Encyclopedia

Sarah grew up in Wivenhoe and, having trained and performed as a dancer, is now working mainly as a dance teacher and aerobics instructor.

Sarah says: "I base my classes on techniques I have studied including Limon, Graham and Cunningham alongside my own choreographic ideas. I have studied ballet, tap and jazz and have some knowledge of hip hop, break dance and Capoeira, all of which I can incorporate into my work if appropriate.

I also enjoy teaching more creative workshops, providing ideas and direction whilst encouraging participants to choreograph their own movement.

My recent success in gaining a YMCA Aerobics Instructor’s certificate has provided me with further skills and ideas which I can draw on in all areas of my teaching.

Dance has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. I have a wide variety of performance experience and I’m keen to continue working as a performer in the future."

Sarah started her dancing career with the Colne Bank School of Dancing, under Jenny Overton, before going on to the London Contemporary Dance School (1995-98) where she earned a BA (Hons) in Contemporary Dance, followed three years later with an intensive course for professional dancers with Janice Garrett and Chris Benstead at the Dancers Project at The Place.

She has done many other courses since as well performed in many shows, including for New Millennium Experience Company at The Millennium Dome.
